About Me

STEEL PANNIST /VOCALIST/MUSIC DIRECTOR/DRUMMER

“Live in Love and Music” is his mantra.

When Kern Anthony Sumerville is not thrilling audiences with his vocal ability or his prowess on one of several instruments, he is transcribing and arranging music. Music is his life and has been since he was seven years old.  Born a natural musician and raised in East Trinidad, Mr. Sumerville is a solo vocalist and prolific Steel Pannist, who also plays the French horn, drum set, saxophone and percussion.
This talented young man has been serving in the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service for the past sixteen years. At his present rank of Corporal, Sumerville is the leader and musical director of the Trinidad and Tobago Police Steel Orchestra and is the mastermind behind many of their stellar performance pieces including the 2020 National Panorama Single Pan Category, where they entered for the very first time and was placed in fourth position.
Mr. Sumerville, holds a Certificate in Music from the University of the West Indies and is currently pursuing his Bachelor of Fine Arts in Music at the University of Trinidad & Tobago. He has arranged for the Laventille Police Youth Club Steel Orchestra and several school Panorama bands including his alma mater, St. Augustine Senior Secondary Comprehensive School. Sumerville has also transcribed and arranged music for prominent calypsonians such as Winston “Explainer” Henry, Lady Adanna, Derrick Seales, Richard “Chromatics” Raj-Kumar, Brian London, Queen Victoria, Marvin “Mr. King” Lewis, Chucky Gordon, Tameika Darius, Makeda Darius, Tobago’s Leslie-Ann Ellis and many others. He has graced many stages as an instrumentalist with the likes of Republic Bank Exodus Steel Orchestra, Errol Ince Music Makers (Calypso Fiesta and Dimanche Gras), North West Laventille Cultural Movement, Phase 2 Pan Groove, The Marionettes Chorale, Devon Seale, Rondell Donawa, the late Ken “Professor” Philmore, Dane Gulston, Duvone Stewart, David Michael Rudder, Christopher “Tambu” Herbert and even as Drummer for U.S. based vocalist, Kameelah Samar for the Tobago Jazz Festival in 2015.
Mr. Sumerville’s passion and love for music also motivated him to form his own live band and launch a new logo and clothing line, establishing a solid brand for himself. Sumerz, as he is fondly called, has proudly taken his brand from Port of Spain to Toronto in 2017 and New York in both 2018 and 2019, for live performances that left audiences highly impressed by his outstanding musical talents.
At the core, he is sentimental, idealistic and reflective, which is evident in his musical arrangements and his vocal outpourings.
With a passion and enthusiasm for all that is musical we wish to introduce to you,
Kern Anthony Sumerville.
